3 Going on 13

3 Going on 13

Robbie and Holly

Do you see why I need to dye my eyebrows?

Tonight on the way home from the gym Robbie was getting angry because (poor child!) his DVD had ended and I couldn’t get it to start over while driving. While I do know the navigation menu of Dumbo by heart, I’m still getting the hang of blindly navigating Horton Hears a Who. He kept yelling and whining so I turned it off and told him he was grounded from it for a day. He, of course, yelled more loudly.

“Ok bud, that’s two days. Are you going for three?”

They crying suddenly stops. Amazing how he can control that!

“I’m done.”

“Good,” I say “because as I was trying to explain, I can’t see the screen when I’m driving so I do the best I can but you can’t whine like that or I’ll always turn it off.”

“Fine, I don’t want to look at you.” he says and turns as far as he can in his car seat. “I don’t want to watch cartoons with you, or have stories with you. I don’t want to live in our house or in our backyard. I want to live somewhere else.” He keeps talking faster and faster and louder until he yells “Like ALASKA! Or the DESERT! Or one of those two places.”

I couldn’t help it. I burst out laughing.

He’s three! Isn’t that a little young for the male fantasy about striking out to live alone when life gets tough?

I guess not.

Well, later I asked him “who lives in Alaska” because I had a hunch where he pulled it from. He said “Homer Simpson” so I am pretty sure he’s getting this from toooooo much tv.

I’d love to tell you that it gets better, but Kati is 4 going on 16. She says stuff like that all of the time too! I love reading your blog Holly, it reminds me that I am not the only one going through this stuff. Thanks for the smile 🙂

Definitely not the only one! I imagine all this is cuter now than it will be in ten years though.

So this must be the two parent version of “I want to go live with Daddy cause it’s more fun at daddy’s house’ 🙂

And the two places he picks to live??? Alaska or the desert?? You’d think a kid his age would want to live in Disney World or some fantasy place! What a goof ball – I can see why you had to laugh!

Wow! He is starting young. Maybe that means he’ll get it out of his system before he’s a teenager. One can always hope!
